flux; a wearable emotional tracker

International Housewares Project
Fall 2018
Senior Year
This project was our senior year Housewares assignment. We were tasked with picking an area and problem of our choosing to research, concept, design and submit the final project to the International Housewares Competition.
After choosing emotional literacy and mental health, I issued a survey and then designed a research study focused on understanding the daily emotional journey of young adults in universities. I recruited a handful of students in on different campuses across the country and had them track the instances in their day that they had significant mood changes, why and where, and how that later affected their overall day. With the feedback from my study, I began to brainstorm around the idea of identifying highs and lows in the moment and using that data to visually map out the causes, timing, and effect of mood swings. The resulting project is ‘flux’, a screen-free wearable health tracker that doesn’t distract but allows you to capture data and reflect on your day.
